Giorgio Simonetti, 59 anni, residente a Courmayeur, portiere di notte, noto nella cittadina ai piedi del Monte Bianco per la sua grande passione per il podismo, è morto. nel pomeriggio di domenica 15 marzo, a causa di un infarto. Simonetti, originario di Alessandria, che era anche soprannominato anche "il legionario", dopo un'esperienza professionale nel deserto, nel 2002, quando venne celebrato l'Anno della Montagna, si inventò il giro a piedi del Monte Bianco, una corsa da 158 chilometri che poi divenne la "Ultra trail du Mont Blanc", una gara podistica d'élite che raccoglie oltre duemila corridori ogni edizione, alla quale Simonetti aveva contribuiva alla creazione e nell'organizzazione.La passione per il podismo di Giorgio Simonetti, che a causa di un incidente viveva con una protesi di titanio e teflon nell'anca sinistra, non si limitava alla montagna: nel 2007 era tornato a correre nel deserto, in Mongolia, alla "Gobimarathon", tra Pakistan e Cina dove aveva completato le sei tappe ed i 250 chilometri totali, classificandosi al 38esimo posto sui duecento partecipanti.La scomparsa di Simonetti ha costernato la grande comunità sportiva di Courmayeur: numerosi appassionati lo hanno ricordato anche su Internet per la sua sincerità e schiettezza oltre che per la sua simpatia.
Con la sua scomparsa la corsa "perde" un po' allegria!.Ma Il "cielo" ha trovato il suo "guardiano" della notte.
